Hohenzollern Castle is located about 1 hour away from Hotel Traube Tonbach at the top of an imposing hill, which provided security in ancient times and now has breathtaking vistas in all directions. This castle is unique in many ways, it is still a privately owned castle and part time residence for the Prince of Prussia and his family. The property has been in his family for generations and is a unique experience.

There are over 2,300 km of hiking and mountain bike trails throughout the Black Forest National Park. These trails range from easy, to moderate, and to difficult with varying distances and gorgeous views. As great as it is to experience a truly unique luxury hotel, we love having things to do outside of the hotel itself. Having these trails available right from the hotel is a dream come true for outdoor lovers!

Freiburg is a unique city- a mix of old and new in the best way. While in Freiburg, stay at the Colombi Hotel; a small boutique, privately owned hotel located across the street from the theatre. While touring the city, visit the Augustinermuseum- a former Augustine monastery. The monastery was made into a museum a few years ago with the help of locals who wanted to save the building and its contents.

After a day of touring, stop at Alte Wache, a local wine bar for a wine tasting. The wine bar is located next door to the Cathedral in the city center and has some of the best wines we’ve ever had!

Before leaving Freiburg the next day, take a walk to the Musterplatz market. Every Saturday local farmers and craftsmen come to the market to sell their goods. The selection of vegetables, fruits, arts/crafts, is huge and the quality is just amazing.

Titisee is somewhere I always enjoy going back to, a charming town located in the Black Forest Highlands and one of the most beautiful lakes! Titisee is about 1.5 hrs away from Zurich which is a great stop on the way in or out of the airport. Stay at the Boutique Hotel Alemannenhof which has some of the best views of the lake and surrounding forest. While there, take a boat tour, enjoy world class cuisine and take a walk in the mountains!
