Colorado is an amazing and versatile destination. Most people think of Colorado as strictly a winter destination, however we have had our absolute best moments exploring Colorado in the summer!
The weather is perfect on a Colorado summer day; never too hot at the very high altitude and with over 300 days of sunshine, the state even outshines Florida!
Summers in Colorado are for exploring the high-country, deserts, mountains and rivers. There are many sports and activities you can take part in ranging from, hiking to speed flying. The river season usually peaks in the early spring, so if you’re serious about river activities, plan your dates accordingly. However, for everything else, the summer is very long and inviting.
Colorado has more mountain towns than we can count, and in these towns they have fantastic festivals all summer long. Due to the remote and tiny nature of Colroado’s mountain communities, they have figured a way to get visitors in the summer time. Ever since, many of these festivals have grown into worldclass events. There is literally every type of festival imaginable, from the politic/world-leader heavy Aspen Ideas Festival, to the very hippy and down to earth, Telluride Brews and Blues or Bluegrass Festival. They truly have it all!
HALT’s favorite location in the mountains of Colorado is Telluride. Its an iconic and most importantly authentic Southwest mining town turned ski friendly playground. It’s an amazing town for Colorado for a few reasons:
- Uncrowded and Relatively Undiscovered
- Authentic Western Feel
- Abundance of Activities
- Relatively Easy on the Wallet
- Close to many amazing locations around the Southwest
Telluride has many options when it comes to sleeping, eating and playing. Our absolute favorite hotel is the Element 52 an Auberge Resorts property. This property is really head and shoulders above the other lodging options in town or Mountain Village (we really prefer town for a variety of reasons). We have a great relationship with the hotel, can’t you see yourself here already?!
