Minnewaska State Park Preserve
Over the weekend we decided to venture out and explore some of what the Hudson Valley has to offer (which is a lot)! After driving through windy roads and beautiful farmland, we ended up at Minnewaska State Park where we planned to hike for the afternoon with our pup, Kody Rae. The weather was perfect and it wasn’t too crowded which was nice!
Minnewaska State Park is located about 10 miles outside of New Paltz, NY and about 2 hrs. from NYC. There are a variety of activities to do: Biking, Hiking, Hunting, Recreation Programs, Snowshoeing Trails, Horseback Riding, X-country Skiing and more! At Minnewaska, there are roughly 35+ trails that you can hike and bike on during the summer months which is pretty amazing. Because this is a State Park, you will have to pay a fee to get in; this money goes towards keeping the park clean and safe.
We hiked for a few hours, through the forest and from one lake to another. It was absolutely beautiful! If you’re staying for the weekend, Mohonk Mountain House is the place to be! Overlooking the Mohonk preserve, you get a true sense of relaxation and pure beauty. The Mohonk Mountain House is a member of the Historic Hotels of America, built in 1870. The resort has grown over time from a small resort to one with 259 guest rooms. This is a great place to stay for a family getaway or a peaceful retreat. With numerous hiking trails and activities, you are sure to have a great time!
